My name is Claire. I was born in the North of England but grew up in North London. I am a nursery teacher and have worked as a support assistant with children with special needs. After the breakdown of my first marriage I took my 3 young children to Prainha with Amazonas, the school of capoeira (Brazilian martial art) with whom I trained in London. To my utter surprise I met and fell in love with a native fisherman 15 years my junior. There followed much heart searching but finally the decision was made and in 2004 I moved to the village, to a new life. I live there with the two youngest children from my first marriage and our son from my second marriage, my eldest son (then aged 16) chose to stay in London. We make regular trips back to England to visit family and friends and apart from the difficulty of being separated from them, particularly my son, we have no regrets. I now divide my time between caring for my family and numerous cats and dogs, writing on life in the village and the problems of over fishing, art and craft work, teaching English and helping out in the village school.
