Beautiful place, beautiful people!
I stayed for a month in Prainha do Canto Verde in early 2002, and then once again for a few weeks in Autumn 2009: two of the best holiday experiences of my life!
Claire, Neu and their family are amongst the kindest and most genuine people that I have ever met, and their knowledge of the area is second to none! It would take me all day to list all the amazing things that happened during my visits, so here are a few highlights:
- Going fishing with the locals at 4am in the morning
- Turtle spotting on a traditional jangada
- Exploring giant sand dunes
- Wildlife trails along the sea front and the interior
- Making my own berimbau (with Neu’s help)
- Learning about the history of the region and the challenges that threaten it’s future
So, in case it’s not already clear: I really recommend a stay at Claire and Neu’s guesthouse, especially for those who have an interest in responsible tourism in Brasil.
Thanks Yomi, nice to know you enjoyed it so much, hope we will see you and your family again soon x C
Claire & Neu,
Just wanted to say a big big thank you for a wonderful experience staying with you at Canto Verde.
A truly memorable time to cherish for the 2 of us. From the exhilarating sailboat adventure to the mesmerizing dunes. THOSE DUNES! I never believed sandboarding could have been so much fun. We’d never have discovered those secret spots, nor felt so relaxed without your guidance, help & friendly/welcoming demeanour. We felt just at home. Thanks again!

The moment we got on a couple of motobike taxis and made our way down to the village navigating the sand, we knew our trip was going to be unforgetable.
Prainha do Canto Verde is a wonderful place and staying with Claire, Neu and their family made the experience even more magical. Claire made our stay very relaxing, exciting and original. We loved rolling down the 20m dunes, lying in her lovely hammock, meeting her friends around the village, and relaxing on the beautiful beach.
I think the highlight of our trip was pushing a wheel-barrow full of cats across the sand dunes to the vet – it was great! This place is so beautifully different and learning about it from Claire was lots of fun and made our stay truly unique.
Thank you for our wonderful stay and hopefully we will see you again when we bring our new-born daughter to play in the dunes.

That cat thing was specially for you, not everyone gets a chance to do that, I wouldn’t have managed without you that’s for sure.
We have fewer cats now so no wheelbarrows needed.
I cant wait to see your little lovely, so happy for you guys xxx
I with Claire and Neu in November of 2009. I was doing research on artisanal fishing and the land reserve. Not only was Claire extremely helpful with my research, but immensely hospitable. I felt like I was home, only better. Claire helped me with whatever I needed, and her home is a paradise.
I have never felt more relaxed, comfortable, or welcomed before visiting Prainha. It’s a great place to experience community tourism at it’s finest!
I truly recommend staying with Claire and Neu, it’s an experience you won’t forget.
I stayed at Prainha in 2006. It is an incredibly special and very beautiful place. Claire and Neu are great hosts – very easy going, friendly, helpful and welcoming. I had great fun going out on the jangada with Neu and then coming back in to cook probably the freshest fish I’ve ever eaten on the beach. Whilst I was there I made a short film about the fishermen. I will never forget the mornings I spent filming on the beach at dawn whilst fishermen wonder out from the village to prepare their jangadas before heading out into the crashing surf.
Once you get there you’ll probably never want to leave…
You can see Jarrods film here on the videos page. it is a magical film and I especially love the part with the boats leaving the beach, Jarrod really captured the spirit of those early mornings. Thanks Jarrod and hope to see you out here again, if not then when I next make it back to London. X Claire
